It has been a very dynamic twelve months for all of us and I've been reflecting on how we have adapted. When we started the agency over three years ago, growth was at a 20-year low. Clients needed help reimagining growth and taking action. Since then, we have experienced probably three of the most challenging years in recent history, with prolonged disruption creating both risk and opportunity for businesses. Agility and pace of change have been reset.
My old boss at Unilever, Paul Polman, used to paraphrase Mario Andretti “when things around me are moving faster than I am, I know I’m in trouble.” It seems to capture the spirit of the times. Faced with uncertainty, the priority is to keep moving forward – both deliberately and opportunistically.
This has created a noticeable shift in the work we do for our clients. The challenges of the environment create permission for bold actions, leading some clients to revisit foundational “rules of the game.” To think about what was previously unthinkable. Portfolio change, rejuvenation of brands or ideas big enough to prosper, no matter the macros.
Many more of our clients are embracing activity-based management. It’s an evident shift from “thematic” management that drowns in context, towards an action-oriented approach that drives urgency. Our highly productive, "bite sized" projects are growing quickly, unlocking rapid progress for teams seeking impactful growth moves.
